Quar'an Burning in Florida Sept 11.

A brilliant move by a pastor in Florida is causing a rather large fuss. Pastor Terry Jones is planning to old a Quar'an burning at his church on September 11th to protest the events of 9/11. While the events of the date should never be forgotten, Jones' unique method of protest is dangerous. He says:

It is not to the moderate Muslim. Our message is not a message of hate. Our message is a message of warning to the radical element of Islam, and I think what we see right now around the globe provides exactly what we're talking about.

He has missed the mark. Burn any religious text and you are condemning and seriously insulting that religion. I know I would be furious if I heard about a bible burning (I am aware that they happen). I cannot fathom how it is not a message of hate and violence. Moderate and Radical Muslims have every right to be angry at this event. I see no purpose in his actions. It will only add fuel to the fire of radical Islam. Radicals will use Jones' actions as a justification for their jihad.

While I have my issues with the Muslim faith, I would not say they are evil by any stretch of the imagination. There are good tenants in (almost) every faith. Also, one must remember that Christians are not exempt from using religion to insight violence. I would encourage people to live and let live more. Disagree where you will, but do not hate or encourage violence. We must defend our rights and liberties and never forget what happened on September 11 2001. However, we must not let this event turn us into the same monsters as those terrorists. God bless all good people of the world, and with hope Jones will be stopped before he causes more problems.

  1. Some Christians might invoke their religion to do violence; however, they are roundly condemned ( often by other Christians) and often their actions are thwarted or stopped by the very same ( Northern Ireland comes to mind)

Can you say the same of Islam?

Who stops the murderous rampages so common with this faith?

    Certainly not its adherents.

  2. I do agree, and I believe peaceful Muslims should do the same. I sadly can only think of one example, but yes. However, you miss my point. I was referring to events such as the Crusades in which Muslims were hunted. These days it is not common to my knowledge. Radical Muslims kill their own as well as us. Even if they do not I fail to see how burning a Quar'an will stop murderous rampages and soothe the souls of the families involved. It will only serve to harm our attempts to eliminate radicalism and create danger to our soldiers.

  3. Your point was not missed; radical Islam does not believe in live and let live and the sooner people understand that, the safer we will be, Koran burnings notwithstanding.

It matters not what we do, because those that wish to harm us will not change their ways, and the so called moderates ( which I don't believe exist) are too cowed to speak out.

As well, the Crusades were a reaction to an Imperialist Islam expanding into Christian territories. Islam was spread by the sword and was only stopped after centuries of bloody conquest outside the gates of Vienna.

  4. I do agree with you there. Nothing we say will change the views of the Radical Muslims. We are not fighting a people, we are fighting a perverse idea which is much harder to eradicate. Moderates to some degree do exist in my opinion and I have heard of one or two who dare to speak out. But, the whole ideology of radical Islam is what must be stopped. I think for the most part we are in agreement. I simply feel that the Qur'an burning accomplishes nothing for any purpose and actually harms our efforts.
